D-Day

The Christmas decorations have been packed away, the empty champagne bottles removed by the Council and, for many it’s ‘back to normal’ for the start of the new year.

In the family law world, the first Monday when solicitors’ offices re-open after the holiday break is commonly referred to as ‘D-Day’. This is the day many people decide that after yet another less than festive season, marked by rows, resentments and recriminations, it is time to call it a day on their marriages and or relationships and decide to call a divorce lawyer – hence the “D”.

Many couples and families face a tough time over Christmas as it’s often when people spend concentrated time together – which can bring to light any underlying issues. Also, New Year is a time when many of us naturally assess how life is going and this can make people think about how their relationships are faring.

The high number of calls that Armstrong Legal traditionally receives in January suggests that many people are considering what their next steps will be.

If you have made the decision to seek advice, do not hesitate to contact one of our family law team members. It is a major life-changing decision.
