An Australian woman is in custody in Queensland and awaiting extradition to the United States for abducting her 10month old child in 1994 contrary to court orders.

The Australian woman whose child is now an adult, lost her appeal against extradition to the United States and now faces a possible 10 year term in jail as a result of her rash decision to abduct her child.

The father, together with law enforcement agencies, caught up with the woman and she is now subject to serious charges in a foreign jurisdiction.

The message is that serious consequences can flow from acting in contravention of Orders even if such Orders are made by a foreign court.
