The breakdown of a relationship can be a very emotional time that is likely to affect many aspects of your life. Often you will have concerns in relation to the future parenting arrangements of your children and how your property will be divided.
To be able to give the best advice it is important that your solicitor has an appreciation of all the relevant circumstances. Even so, it is not necessary for your family lawyer to know every detail. The importance of a family law client being able to give clear and concise instructions cannot be underestimated. Not only will this be cost effective for you but the advice provided can be more specific, for you to make you best consider your available options.
Family Law clients should also be made aware of the increasing availability of support services. PS news reported on 24 August 2011 that “funding up to $1 billion has been allocated to the Family Support Program with community organisations in 2,200 receiving payments to deliver support for vulnerable families and children” that included “services such as parenting skills training, relationship counselling, playgroups, family law services and intensive support for at-risk children and families”.
As family lawyers, we are limited in what we can do to help clients come to an agreement with an ex-partner outside of the Courts. However, support services that are able to be accessed alongside the relationship with your family lawyer can support you during this critical life event, providing you with beneficial knowledge and practical suggestions for couples separating, which will not only help you to communicate much more effectively with your family lawyer, but may assist in reaching a resolution on a final basis for parenting and/or property matters without undue delay.
If you have a family law problem that you wish to discuss, please do not hesitate to contact our office. We are able to meet with you at any of our offices located in Sydney, Parramatta and Wollongong.
